Rialto Residence

Photographer: Amy Bartlam.  This southern California Spanish inspired home came with great bones, but in our remodel we were able to expand the kitchen and create a master suite.   We opened up spaces and added French doors allowing for a more inspired interior.  We also created a guest courters.  Using the existing features as inspiration, we added exposed beams in the main spaces, darkened the floors, added encaustic tiles to the kitchen and bathrooms.  The exterior also saw a cosmetic transformation and all new landscaping in a Mediterranean feel.  The family recently welcomed a son and we were able to finish out the rooms of the house with a serene nursery.

Set in Venice Beach, blocks from Abbot Kinney, this remodel was an interesting project in that the client never planned to live in the space. Thoughtful design for “anyone” can be a challenge, but the end result here included a lot of great features. This home received a restructured floor plan including a new bedroom, enlarged master suite, and rooftop deck. The palette needed to feel interesting and detailed while appealing to any person who may live in the space. Ultimately, the black cabinetry and contrasting hickory defined small and very functional spaces of interest with furniture custom-designed in-house that fit seamlessly into each room.
