When two university professors relocated from Chicago to Orange County purchased a brand new on-campus home, they felt it was a bit too cookie-cutter for their taste. We started the transformation process by completely rethinking the kitchen and den to allow for a more natural and comfortable space to entertain. The space now features a neutral palette with a mix of light and dark woods, thoughtful lighting, and a large island with two parallel sofas nearby to encourage discussion. We also added lots of storage and custom built-ins throughout the home to accommodate our clients’ gorgeous and expansive collection of books, along with a few cozy spaces to enjoy them! We completed this project by fully furnishing the home, taking inspiration from Japanese culture and design, where the professors lived for a period of time and where they still visit often.
